Here We Go Again The ‘Darwinist Inquisition’ Starts Another Round
September 30, 2005
It’s happening again: another scientist, another academic institution, another attempt to stifle freedom of thought. The “Darwinist inquisition,” as a Discovery Institute press release calls it, is as predictable as it is relentless.
This time the setting is Iowa State University. One hundred twenty professors there have signed a statement denouncing the study of intelligent design and calling on all faculty members to reject it. The statement reads, in part, “We, the undersigned faculty members at Iowa State University, reject all attempts to represent Intelligent Design as a scientific endeavor. . . . Whether one believes in a creator or not, views regarding a supernatural creator are, by their very nature, claims of religious faith, and so not within the scope or abilities of science.”
SACRAMENTO, Calif, -- Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger followed through Thursday on his promise to veto a bill to legalize same-sex marriage, leaving the issue up to voters or judges who will likely face the volatile issue in the next year.
THERE'S VIRTUE IN SOBER ANALYSIS [Kathryn Jean Lopez ] Bill Bennett has been called the "worst person in the world" by Keith Olbermann this week for comments he made in conversation with a caller to his radio show (does Olbermann have no sense of proportion?). Nancy Pelosi (who works in Katrina and the children!); Ted Kennedy; Harry Reid--they've all come out against Bennett. They've all going way over the top. Notably, Matthew Yglesias, who is no Bennett fan defends him here. Posted at 07:31 AM
It seems that Dr Bill Bennett is in a bit of hot water again. Remember when the left tried to destroy him because of his gambling issue? Remember back even further when he angered everyone as the drug czar talking about policies that would reduce drug us and crime?
Well, this time he made a statment that was making a point of one effective way to reduce crime. He is quoted as saying something like "I do know that it's true that if you wanted to reduce crime, you could, if that were your sole purpose, you cold abort every black baby in this country and your crime rate would go down."
So the question is, what did he really say, and what was the context of the converstion. You can find a disscussion about that here...
The interesting thing I think is that Bill is under fire and he knows it and he is ready to take the heat. He is used to that.
A sick man turned to his doctor, as he was preparing to leave the examination room and said, "Doctor, I am afraid to die. Tell me what lies on the other side."
Very quietly, the doctor said, "I don't know."
"You don't know?" the man asked. "You, a Christian man, do not know what is on the other side?"
The doctor was holding the handle of the door; on the other side came a sound of scratching and whining, and as he opened the door, a dog sprang into the room and leaped on him with an eager show of gladness.
Turning to the patient, the doctor said, "Did you notice my dog? He's never been in this room before. He didn't know what was inside. He knew nothing except that his master was here, and when the door opened, he sprang in without fear. I know little of what is on the other side of death, but I do know one thing. I know my Master is there and that is enough."
May today there be peace within you. May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be.
I believe that friends are quiet angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly.
Rabbi Shmuley Botea is making a connection between teen sex and suicide.
"The news that more than 50 percent of American teens have had oral sex raised hardly an eyebrow"
"Less so was there any shock value in the newly released fact that 11 percent of young women reported having at least one homosexual experience."
"But there was another statistic that should have gotten parents' attention but which was similarly ignored, namely, that there seems to be a direct link between teen sexuality and teen depression."
While 14 percent of girls who have had intercourse have attempted suicide, only 5 percent of sexually inactive girls have. And whereas 6 percent of sexually active boys have tried suicide, less than 1 percent of sexually inactive boys have. The report challenges the previously held notion that teens become sexually active in order to self-medicate their own depression.
This is astounding! Parents, teach your children the importance of abstinace. Enjoy the real gift at the right time!
Alabama State Sen. Hank Erwin, is willing to speak his mind clearly...
An Alabama state senator says the reason why the Gulf Coast is suffering from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita is because God is judging Americans in that region for sinful behavior.
I Know God hates wickedness, but I can't say I know the ways of God. Also, If God were going to destroy all wickedness, I would have to be the first to go. I understand my state all too well. That being said I also understand his sentiment.
