Freedom - Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed

Freedom
Originally uploaded by !!WaynePhotoGuy.

Freedom of thought and expression are two of the most basic tenants of any free society.
Without those two things, you do not have a free society.

We went to a must see movie this weekend. In Ben Stein’s (“Ferris Bueller's Day Off.”) new documentary movie Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed Ben shows how little academic freedom exists in our universities if you want to discuss unpopular topics like the origins of life.

Much of the academic world thinks that the conversation should be closed because Darwinian Evolution has answered all of those questions… But, is that true????

If you do not think that is true as a professor, get ready to loose you job. Yes, that politically incorrect thought has been banned in the university… I thought the university was a place of open discussion and thought???? Think again…

At one point in the movie… (this most unbelievable point I think ) Ben is interviewing Richard Dawkins and pressing him on the point of where did that actual first cell come from for all life to begin so that everything could evolve from it.
Richard actually believes that some advanced life source from outer space seeded our planet with that first cell… Can you believe this stuff???? And he is the one that gets paraded out all the time as the expert in this area…

Well, my recommendation is to go see the movie…

Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed

BTW, yes I know this is going to make me very unpopular. But that is ok, I am used to being a trouble maker... ;-)

The other day it was a rainy wet cold miserable spring day. The kid of day that makes you want to wrap up in a blacket and read a good book...

But this thought in my head kept saying get out and shoot some night phototography tonight. I am learning to go ahead and get out and shoot whenever I am feeling inspired like that..

It turns out, it was a wonderfully successful creative time out shooting... This is one of the images I captured... I love the New England feel to this image with that gorgeous old church in the background...

Angelo

Listening to Manheim Steamroller: Silent Night

The other night I went out with the idea that I was going to capture Christmas lights in the city...
Instead I was accosted and blessed by a homeless person Angelo.

Let me fist set the stage. This morning at church we had as Pastor from New Orleans preach at my church... John Gerhardt is a friend because of a trip I had taken to help out in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.

So John was preaching about the help they still need in New Orleans, but then he went on to preach about getting outside the walls of the church....

So I run into Angelo this evening... It is downtown St Paul, 19F and windy... He comes over and tells me he needs $7 to get into union gospel mission for the night.. My nature is to always be a bit skeptical at first but I was willing to take the time and hear is story... At the same time I was trying to determine if he was drug and/or alcohol free.

He started talking about his work... He is a construction worker that got injured.
He told me about his 12 yr old daughter that is loves and misses... This part of the discussion made him cry..
He told me about him being a writer... He said he got published at the local Minnesota Public Radio Web sight for his writing...
You can actually read about Angelo here...

He told how important it was just to have someone spend the time with him...
Especially on a cold winter night...

We ended our encounter praying together and then he was on his way to the Union Gospel Mission. I hope and pray.
